THE LITTLE PRINCE

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the publication of The Little Prince Solar Impulse and the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundations announced a new partnership in the summer of 2013. Both Foundations aim to promote educational and awareness-raising programs for students in the area of energy use and consumption, while contributing to youth empowerment. This partnership further consolidates the Foundations’ shared values, such as pioneering spirit, respect for human welfare and the environment, and a sense of responsibility.

INSTITUTIONAL ACTIVITIES

Solar Impulse’s technological and innovative characteristics coupled with its message are an attractive topic for many academic and scientific institutions. Events are regularly organized with institutional partners like, Stanford University, The Smithsonian Institute, and Columbia University, to name a few that took place during the 2013 Across America mission.

Solar Impulse was also chosen as the subject matter for a series of science classes currently being developed in collaboration with the EPFL in Lausanne and the Department of Education of the Vaud Canton for 12-14 year-old students.

Climate Pioneer

Wanted: Climate Pioneers!

“Climate Pioneers” is a project of Swisscom, Solar Impulse and myclimate. It offers students from kindergarten to high-school the opportunity to carry out their own projects in favor of climate protection. It also helps teachers to develop and execute their ideas.

When it comes to topics such as renewable energies, CO2 and climate, it’s especially important to go beyond mere debate, and put ideas into practice in everyday life.  Climate Pioneers has two prominent supporters, the pilots of Solar Impulse, who offer all participating classes an exclusive insight into their work and its challenges.

Ready to take the challenge Amazers and Bertrand Piccard have created for you? Here is the message Bertrand wrote to introduce what it is all about:

Hi everyone!

I'm very excited to have you here – thanks so much for stopping by! My challenge to you is all about dreaming big, believing in yourself and facing your fears. It is designed for all those of you who want to achieve their goals and are looking to be inspired by like-minded people. I can’t wait to see you get started – so click “COUNT ME IN!” and accept my challenge!

CHALLENGE INFORMATION

Steps: This challenge is split into three consecutive steps that are all built upon each other. During each step, you will have seven days to post your submission; depending on the step, this may be something written or an image.
Guidance: Throughout the entire challenge, Bertrand will explain you the required actions of each step and provide you with the WHY you need to undertake them, by highlighting his personal experiences and lessons learned.
Community: You will participate in the challenge together with a community of 30 other people. See the below "How It Works" section for more information.
Requirements: No specific requirements are needed for this challenge – all you need is an open mindset!
Rewards: Solar Impulse will be giving out a number of unique rewards to participants who complete the challenge. The grand prize of the challenge will be to travel to Switzerland to meet Bertrand Piccard and see the Solar Impulse 2 airplane.

HOW IT WORKS

Our challenges are more inspiring and empowering when they are undertaken with other people. That’s why we have built a system that creates a new Challenge Community every time 30 users accept a challenge. This way, users start challenges at the same time, grouped in communities of 30 people in which they can engage amongst each other throughout the entire experience. Technically speaking, this means that a challenge can have an unlimited amount of participants while keeping the all-important community feeling within each of its individual communities of 30 people.

12 speeches in 4 days during my trip to Chile and Argentina !

Back to Switzerland, I have great memories of the people I met: students, teachers, corporations, media, NGos, diplomats.

Thank you to all of you for your questions and comments, and, most of all, for your commitment to spread the word about pioneering spirit and innovative ways of thinking to make the world a better place.

A special appreciation to Fernando Nilo and his Recyclapolis Foundation who wants to launch the recycling industry in Chile. He is a great pioneer!

Hope to be back soon in Latin America!
