• Managed the Avionics Department of Rhein-Flugzeugbau GmbH at Mönchengladbach from 1970.
• Since 1971, Aviation equipment (avionics) inspector, categories 1, 2 and 4, and also B2 and C.
• Sample analysis engineer for FAR/JAR 23 Subpart F (Electrical equipment).
• Systems development, construction, testing and assistance for the following projects FANTRAINER FT-400/600 (Rhein-Flugzeugbau GmbH), EGRETT 1; EGRETT G520 (Grob), EXTRA-300; EXTRA-400 and EXTRA-500 (Extra), Electrical/electronic equipment department.
• Has undertaken approvals or avionics-type additions for the following projects: OV‑10, FT-400/600, EGRETT 1, SEA STAR CD 2, BO-105, Westwind 1124, Beech 1900.

Biography

• HES electronics engineer, Engineering school of Biel
• Responsible for the energy management in the "Spirit of Biel Bienne" team during the World Solar Challenge in Australia in 1990 (1st place)
• Responsible for the development of the "hybrid propulsion" part of the Swatchmobile / hybrid Smart, SMH Automobile Biel (10 years)
• Since 5 years, research and development of an angular rate sensor (gyroscope) based on quartz at Microcomponents SA, a company of the Swatch Group

KARL OSEN

SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER

I’m a developer of software for the aircraft’s power management and telemetry computers.

Biography

• Born in Oslo, Norway
• Started flying gliders at 17, and since then almost everything I do is somehow related to gliding
• Studied physics and computer science in Trondheim, Norway
• Moved to Geneva in 1983 to work at CERN with accelerator controls
• Started working as a computer consultant in 1988
• My prime customer since 1989 is the Kudelski Group
• Married to Astrid since 1982 with two children, Julie (1986) and Alexander (1989)

SEPP NIEDERNHUBER

ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER

I’m in charge of the definition of the electrical system architecture of the aircraft, this includes a dc high voltage system for the power components of the and a 24 volt system for the auxiliary systems and the avionic system. I’m also responsible for the specification and development of high energy batteries, specification and development of solar cell arrays.

Biography

• Working for 30 years as electrical systems engineer for the development of high performance jet airplanes in the European aircraft industry
• Leading a team of engineers focussed on research work promoting the introduction of more electric systems to improve efficiency and maintainability of future aircraft

GAËL LEMOINE

ENGINEER IN COMPUTER SCIENCE

I’m in charge of the development of the electronic control for the battery and the solar cells in the second prototype.

Biography

• Apprenticeship as electronician in CERN, Geneva
• Engineer in computer science, Yverdon
• I have worked for Reds Institut, Simens AG and Kudelski Group before joining this new challenge

DAVID GLASSEY

AUTOMATION TECHNICIAN

I‘m in charge of cabling the electrical systems and the mechanical assembly of the electrical systems. I also plan and carry out electrical controls of the solar panels.
