Identification

The solution aims is to develop biomethane as truck fuel. Carrefour designed a biomethane ecosystem, by setting up patnerships with gas industrials, car manufacturers and transport companies. The goal is to gathered every actors of biomethane chain and lead them toward a common goal : developping biomethane trucks instead of diesel. Gas industrials developped biogas stations. Car's manufacturers engineer biogas trucks, and transport companies purchased those trucks. Carrefour's role is to garantee, negociate and support each link of biomethane ecosystem, in order to reduce its carbon footprint, anticipate regulation and innovate. The development of biomethane allow to reduce by 75% CO2 emissions and remote small particulates emission (on same distance as diesel). Biogas also have an impact on traffic noise and reduced by 50% this nuisance. Biomethane relies on circular economy, as it is made from organic waste: like agricultural waste or Carrefour shop's organic waste.

  • Truck's autonomy = 425 - 650 kms (long cabin vs small cabin)
  • On average 1 biomethane truck saves 100 tons of CO2 per year.
  • - 80% of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission.
  • Since 2016, Carrefour saved 30 000 tonnes of C02.
