Today, I would like to philosophize on how things happen in life.
Last summer I was solicited to deliver a presentation which happened to fall in the middle of my summer vacations. Initially I was not too receptive and to be truthfully sincere, I was about to decline. In the end I did accept but I cannot recall precisely why I changed my mind except perhaps because the organizers were extremely insistent.
It turned out, that at the end of the conference, an engineer from Bayer Material Science, Peter Krüger, approached me and explained that the Solar Impulse challenge totally corresponded to the values of his company and he was adamant that I need to meet his boss. A few months and a couple of meetings later, BMS has become an Official Partner of Solar Impulse! The agreement has just been concluded with the CEO Patrick Thomas. In addition to financial support which shows that even if a difficult economic environment, companies are willing to stand behind important initiatives, BMS will contribute technological know-how in the form of nanotechnologies and polycarbonates useful components which will lighten the weight of our 2 airplanes.
From now on I will always think twice before refusing a speaking engagement!
