WHEN BERTRAND MEETS BERTRAND

Amongst all the personalities who put in an appearance today under the wing of HB-SIA, it was probably the photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand who had the most amazed expression on his face when he was inspecting the solar airplane.

A long-standing supporter and patron of Solar Impulse, Yann Arthus-Bertrand was received nothwithstanding the play on words in the title -  by both Bertrand Piccard  and André Borschberg, who gave him a guided tour taking in virtually every conceivable aspect of the airplane.

Known throughout the world for his aerial photography, and also once a pilot himself, the ace lensman confided in me that when Bertrand first told him about the project, he did not have much faith that it would work. But then he added, full of enthusiasm and immediately adopting the familiar, friendly tone that is his style: "You know, we need pioneers and people who believe in the impossible. This project is a dream; but the dream has become reality. And then Bertrand has such tremendous powers of persuasion that when he decides he wants something even something that seems completely mad he manages somehow to achieve it. He convinces people to follow him in his various endeavors, and what is really extraordinary is that these projects actually work !
