Solutions for sustainable ICT

The Solar Impulse Foundation and its partner Deutsche Telekom are joining forces in order to accelerate the adoption of clean and profitable solutions for the information and communications technology (ICT) sector. The Partnership will be oriented to identify and promote technologies which positively impact the reduction in Carbon Emissions, Energy Management & Efficiency, Circular Design, Digital Devices collection & recycling. All of these clean, efficient and economically feasible solutions will be made available to the ICT-industry to build a more sustainable future and our partners will implement those which are relevant.

Challenges for sustainable ICT

How can we use the power of digital technologies to accelerate the ecological transition while reducing its impact on the environment?

Accelerate the IT ecological transition

Identify, find and give visibility to clean and efficient ICT solutions to accelerate the sector's ecological transition. It is essential to rely on solutions that have a positive impact on the ecology.'

Develop a green IT environment

The involvement of all the actors of the ICT sectors is essential to increase the energetic efficiency and to achieve the sustainable ICT goals. The increase of the energetics requirements must be offset by the improvement of energy efficiency.

Design Sustainable ICT services and process

Consider the importance of ecology in the creation process of new services and products. The criteria of ecology, sustainability and energy efficiency must become mandatory.

What type of solutions are we looking for?

Carbon Emissions related to ICT and Energy Management & Efficiency

ICT infrastructure needs energy 24/7, therefore we are looking for solutions that support us at becoming more energy efficient or to collect more energy from sustainable sources. Furthermore, the server landscape that is hosting all the world’s data not only consumes energy it also produces a lot of heat, which we want to use in a circular economy oriented approach.

Digital Devices collection & recycling

The digital world is only accessible through a variety of devices and with equipment that constantly evolves towards better performance leaving a trace of used mobile phones, tablets, computers, servers and components behind. These devices and components are full of resources that we need to recycle. Our industry has not yet fully embraced the E2E idea of the circular economy. Therefore, we are looking for solutions that pave the way to a better use of materials and used components.
