Identification

The solution aims at providing industries a turnkey service to accelerate their decarbonization journey by providing on-site carbon-free energy production and generating local carbon credits. The installed pyrolysis equipment, filled in with waste biomass sourced locally (less than 100 km around client) produces renewable energy and generates a coproduct named biochar, that has specific properties benefitting soils while sequestrating carbon in the long term.

The environmental benefits

  • Carbon negative energy with -250 kgCO2e/kWh syngas produced or -12 kgCO2e/kg hydrogen produced
  • Recovery of biomass waste, one unit consumes 3500 tons per year which are converted into 700 tons of biochar
  • One unit can produce 3,8 GWh of heat and electricity, 5,6 GWh of renewable syngas or 110 tons of green hydrogen
  • One unit can sequester 2,3 tons of CO2e per ton of biochar produced
  • Biochar applied into soils can help reduce ~20% usage of fertilisers
