Identification

Our solution overcomes the technical challenges that slow down the industrialization of microalgae cultivation, in particular in the feed, fuels, and plastics sectors. Indeed, raceway ponds are exposed to contaminations and poorly optimized, whereas more advanced PBRs are expensive and limited to small volumes. Our technology allows to cultivate large volumes of microalgae in a controlled environment at a competitive price, which cannot be done with the current available technologies. Our solution draws its advantage from the following features: - SunOleo photobioreactors are simple microalgae cultivation tanks with immersed inflatable light wells, which bring sunlight up to 6m deep in the tanks. Hence, deeper reactors can be made, allowing mass cultivation of microalgae. - As a closed cultivation system, it ensures a better product quality than Open ponds. - The simple design and cheap light wells material allow economies of scale and production costs reduction.

The environmental benefits

  • 1 ton of microalgae biomass produced is capable of retaining 2 tons of CO2
  • Our PBRs take 5 to 20 times less space than the conventional crops and thus leave more space for the agricultural fields
  • Our microalgae cultivation tech allows to: capture 40 % to 100 % of industrial CO2 and capture particles and fumes emissions
  • PBRs SunOleo use 90 % less water than crops to produce food (65 m3/ ton, vs. 1000 to 1500m3/ton for cereals), as well as 90 % less land than crops
  • SunOleo technology uses 90 % less water than raceways, its main competitor (1400 m3/ton)
03.

The Financial benefits

  • The payback time for the client is 1.9-6.2 years, whereas emitting CO2 without taking action generates no profit
  • Our technology is cheaper than Raceway, if we take into account CAPEX and OPEX per T of biomass
