VIVA MFC

Real-time, energy-efficient, and power-generating dc power for aeration

Identification

The Mesopotamians first built sewers to get rid of human waste 6000 years ago. But sewers don't treat waste - they just move the wastewater away from humans. While it was a very helpful at the time, that wastewater resulted in environmental damage. Aeration didn't become widely adopted in the US & Europe until the 1960's and 70's. While highly effective, Aeration's energy intensity is not sustainable even though it has become much more efficient. It still is the biggest energy-load at a wastewater treatment plant. The second issue with Aeration is that it has no process intelligence. Plants periodically test to confirm that the wastewater is being treated. VIVA MFC is the first real alternative, solving the two key issues and providing a third benefit - DC Power generation.

VIVA MFC eliminates wastewater aeration, radically reducing total plant energy use ~50%, while generating DC power. It is the only Secondary Treatment that provides real-time, continuous treatment process data. VIVA MFC can retrofit to nearly every type of equipment infrastructure, for quicker installation and lower installation cost. Our patented quick-start inoculation results in much quicker system startup than conventional technologies can offer.
