About

Typhoon HIL is the technology and market leader in Ultra-high fidelity Hardware in the Loop (HIL) solutions for design, testing, and validation of power electronics, microgrids, e-Mobility, EV powertrain software testing, and distribution control and protection systems. Typhoon HIL platform ushered a new era of model based testing and validation of control software and hardware with its embedded, ultra-high fidelity real-time Hardware in the Loop (HIL) platform. The core technology is based on proprietary numerical algorithms, ultra-low latency application specific processors, and optimized software architecture. Our HIL systems are widely used by engineers in microgrids, solar PV inverters, wind turbine converters, battery storage, marine power systems, motor drives, automotive, and traction industries to speed up time to market, reduce cost of testing, and improve quality and reliability. Designed with love, from the ground up, Typhoon HIL tools offer a unique user experience free of third-party software and hardware complexities. We stand behind our seamlessly integrated technology stack, from Typhoon HIL’s application-specific processors and ultra-robust numerical solver all the way to the Schematic Editor, SCADA system, and TyphoonTest testing automation. As a result, Typhoon HIL Control Center, with all the libraries installs with a single click, models compile in seconds, digital inputs are sampled as low as at a 3.5 ns resolution, and real-time simulation runs with a time step as low as 200 ns on the latest generation of Typhoon HIL products. The complete technology stack empowers our customers to continuously exceed their controller software quality, performance, and time-to-market goals. With more and more renewables on the grid, more solar farms, more wind parks, more energy storage systems, more fast chargers, there is more and more software on the grid, both control and communication, and the power is becoming more digital. To ensure the flexibility, robustness, efficiency, and capability of the grid, software has to be extensively tested. With our real-time controller-HIL approach for software testing and validation we believe we bring to the market one of the key enabling technologies for wider integration of renewable energy sources, thus fully satisfying our mission: To engineer and promote environmentally sustainable power technologies that scale. Typhoon HIL is privately owned company headquartered in Cambridge Massachusetts, US, with three fully owned daughter companies in Switzerland, Serbia and Canada and with offices in Germany, France and Brasil. In early days it was backed up by Venture Capital Fund of Ray Stata, founder of Analog Devices. From 2008, when the first office in Switzerland has been founded, to today it has grown to about 110 people and has a base of more than 700 customers including more than 400 academic customers.
