Identification

People, corporates, states, at each level, everyone is facing the necessity of a change of paradigm toward our use and production of materials.

SCALE has been created to come up with a new generation of materials. Materials that would be : 1. biodegradable; so they would not linger on our shores or in the ocean, 2. bio-sourced; because we cannot afford to use finite resources any more, 3. non deleterious; so they do not threaten natural ecosystems. Scalite, the first material developed by SCALE, is entirely made from fish scales, a by-product of the fishing industry abundant, renewable and scarcely valued. Scales deposit is estimated to represent 25 K Tons for sardine and salmon, each year in Europe. Its production process is divided in 3 main stages : i- Raw material collection in the fish canneries, ii- processing of scales into flour, iii- compression to get SCALITE sheets.
