In a context of climate change where the number of people and assets exposed to extreme precipitation events and located in high hydraulic hazard areas is constantly increasing, a valuable flood risk now-casting system is fundamental to efficiently manage emergencies, limiting damages and losses. Artys’ disruptive solution is a Decision Support System – DSS that takes advantage of the patented Smart Rainfall System - SRS technology for a better response to hydrogeological emergencies providing real-time rainfall monitoring and short-term forecasts of flood risk. A network of low-cost and easy-to-install sensors takes advantage of a well-known phenomenon - the attenuation of electromagnetic waves in the case of precipitation - to get rain specific information, processing the attenuation of the satellite TV signals transmitted by commercial satellites and received by common parabolic dishes. SRS provides real-time rainfall distribution information and short-term forecast about critical hydrogeological conditions through continuatively updated and high definition maps. Our DSS allows a time anticipation of the emergency, predicting rainfall effects based on the observation of the actual meteo-hydrologic situation instead of simulated scenarios derived from weather forecasting. The information we allow wiser and faster choices and optimal, evidence-grounded decisions for managing emergencies.
