About

Tesia Isanga Organization (TIO) is a National Non-Governmental Organization registered and based in Kenya, and aims to scale up its programs to international scope. TIO was established in 2003 as a response to the abject poverty, HIV/AIDS pandemic and community economic empowerment in Mwatate Sub-County of Taita Taveta County in Kenya. OUR MISSION To be an NGO that is committed to facilitating the creation of a conducive environment for communities to attain their maximum potential through capacity building and development focusing on Environmental Conservation and regeneration, promotion of health services, and economic empowerment. OUR MANDATE To promote facilities and activities necessary in the reduction of poverty in the country by empowering communities and by collaborating and networking with other stakeholders. OUR VALUE PROPOSITION TIO is a Non-Discriminative Organization that upholds moral uprightness, good stewardship, transparency, and accountability in delivering quality services to achieve sustainable development. Since its inception, TIO has carried out meaningful programmes for poverty eradication and conflict transformation, conducted research, and produced numerous insights contributing to economic empowerment and the role of youth and women in social-economic development and peacebuilding. Currently, the main focus of TIO’s programmes has been on Kenya, with the strategic focus intended to extend to other parts of Africa in the near future. TIO is currently engaged in collaborative discussions to be affiliated with other stakeholders including the African Union among other local, regional, and international organizations. In research, TIO will be collaborating with academic institutions in Kenya and beyond. TIO carries out its programmatic work mainly through collaboration and engagement with and support of community-based organizations (CBOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), Faith Based Organizations, Youth and Women Self Help Groups (SHGs), and academic institutions, building strategic partnerships with local, national, regional and international organizations and networks in order to support environments and platforms conducive to poverty eradication, individual and community livelihoods transformation and economic empowerment. TIO is inspired by theological reflection, the experience of dialogue, and the appreciation of diversity to engage in action and research with different stakeholders, both secular and faith-based in its different programmes. By so doing, the Organization pursues to contribute to the improvement of human life by promoting economic empowerment, cooperation for peace, justice, and reconciliation among people. OUR PROGRAMS Our programs are tailor-made to empower the Kenyan community to come out of poverty. OUR AREAS OF FOCUS Health and HIV/AIDS We conduct high-quality and intensive HIV/AIDS prevention and response geared towards improving the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). We do this through the quality, availability, and effectiveness of educational and community-based programs designed to prevent disease and injury, improve health, and enhance the quality of life of people with HIV/AIDs. COMMUNITY ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT The aim of our Community Economic Empowerment Programs is to work with communities to raise their incomes, and subsequently, their standard of living. Leadership and governance We do understand that a network of leadership provides the vision and direction to the education system making it relevant and responsive to the contexts of diverse communities. Leadership and Governance provide a Development Plan developed collaboratively by the stakeholders of the school and community, so the community should be sensitized on what is the role of governance. Training and Capacity Building we understand we have to implement changing attitudes and behaviors, imparting knowledge and developing skills while maximizing the benefits of participation, knowledge exchange, and ownership. Enviromental Conservation Due to the changing global climate which is having a direct negative impact on our local community, we have devised ways to mitigate climate change and ease its effect on our environment.
