The Fossilizator®

Transformation of non-recyclable waste into carbon sinks in the form of mineral aggregates usable in construction (BTP).

Néolithe is an industrial startup specializing in the design, manufacturing, and installation of Fossilizator®, units for the treatment of non-recyclable waste through Accelerated Fossilization. Until now, there were only two methods for managing such waste: landfilling and incineration, both of which are significant greenhouse gas emitters. In order to address this need in a more environmentally friendly way, Néolithe has pioneered a new waste treatment method: Accelerated Fossilization, which sequesters CO2 instead of emitting it!

This Accelerated Fossilization process transforms these waste piles into mineral aggregates suitable for use in construction, known as Anthropocite®. By implementing this technology on an industrial scale, Néolithe addresses environmental urgency by creating a new waste treatment approach for non-recyclable refuse. Accelerated Fossilization converts these materials into aggregates while trapping the carbon from the processed waste instead of releasing it into the atmosphere. If Néolithe were to treat all the waste generated in France annually, we could reduce France's carbon footprint by 7%.

Implementation Stories

The Fossilizator® by Néolithe
Implemented by the City of Avrillé in Maine-et-Loire (France) in 2023

To recycle non-recyclable mixed waste from the sector, Valolithe's partners, bringing together the companies Néolithe, Courant, Hervé and ERB, have installed a sorting center and a Fossilizator® in Avrillé.

337 kg CO2 eq stored per tonne of aggregates

The Fossilizator® by Néolithe
Implemented by EUROVIA in Aix-en-Provence (France) in 2023

Mat’Ild, a subsidiary of Eurovia (Vinci), operating sorting centers for construction waste in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region will install a Fossilizer to recover non-inert waste from the construction industry (plastics, wood, cardboard, textiles, etc.). For the operator, the cost of fossilization is lower than the cost of landfilling. As Eurovia is also a major producer and consumer of aggregates, the anthropocite aggregates produced will be consumed locally in the Group’s works.

-2,175 T of CO2 / year

The environmental benefits

  • The Fossilizator® has a treatment capacity of 10 tons per day
  • The waste are turned into stones in 24 hours
  • The Fossilization of 1 ton of household waste avoids 650kg of CO2
  • The Fossilization of all household waste would avoid 5% of the global greenhouse gaz emissions
  • 100% material revalorisation of the waste

The Financial benefits

  • Sold as a service, the Fossilization cost the same thing for the end user
  • Sold as an equipment, the payback time of a Fossilizator® is 6.5 years
