Sign upA bio-based solvent for extraction of vegetable oils and lipophilic fractions in the agri-food sector
For the production of oils, especially edible oils, 2 technics are used which are cold pressing for high quality virgin oils, and/or solvent extraction for commodity large volume oils, such as sunflower or rapeseed oils. For the solvent extraction step the current state of the art technology is the use of Hexane, a petrochemical solvent. Hexane is dangerous and toxic for people exposed, such as workers, but as well consumers, because traces are still found in final products brought into the food supply chain. The Solution, EcoXtract, is a safe, non toxic extraction biobased solvent derived from agriculture by-products. This solvent is eco-friendly for users, consumers and as well for the environment as it is biodegradable and reduce carbon footprint of processes where it is implemented. EcoXtract allows the production of clean human food and animal feed products but could also benefit other industries such as cosmetics, food supplements, pharmaceuticals, flavours and fragrances.
