About
Roshan Water is the developer of VeloCens, portable tool for onsite, accessible and rapid testing of water samples for bacteria, more specifically E.coli and Total Coliforms. It also uses smart data management platforms to communicate all vital information about a sample (sampling location, time and date) as well as test results to its Cloud portal to keep the chain of custody intact and error-free.
Roshan Water is a start-up company, born out of research at the University of Alberta, Canada. Parmiss, the Cofounder and CTO of the company spent 4 years of her PhD research in a joint program between governments of India and Canada to help rural communities with their drinking water issues. More specifically, how to assure drinking water is bacteria-free in these regions where tests are impossible since standard laboratory facilities are inaccessible. She developed a proof of concept that uses electrochemical tests to provide portability, while incorporating nanotechnology allows the tests to be done in only 1 hour.
In 2022, the company finished building its product and VeloCens was field tested in multiple rural municipalities in Alberta, Canada. More importantly, the product travelled to Nigeria with UNICEF and used for feasibility testing in the field conditions of Nigeria. The product received many positive feedback from the users. Finally, the accuracy of the E.coli test results was validated through the evaluation project done by Suez Water and their lab facility in the UK (Latis Scientific).
